Cleansers and Toners- What's the difference?

Let's be real, there are a LOT of different skincare products out there! It can be quite overwhelming and confusing trying to understand the purpose of each product, so we're here to help! A question that we often get asked here at Face MEDISKIN is "What is the difference between a cleanser and a toner?" Let's break it down.

CLEANSERS

Cleansers are one of the most important steps to a skincare routine. It's super important that regardless of skin type or condition, EVERYONE uses a cleanser!

- Remove dirt, makeup and impurities from the skin.

- Create a clean canvas for makeup/product application

- Some cleansers are pH balancing and can help to treat a number of skin concerns including acne and excess oil production. It's important to note that not all cleansers are created equal, some aren't capable of achieving this job. But all of our cleansers here at Face MEDISKIN sure will!

Our FAVE cleansers are:

Dermalist Ultra Hydrating Lactic Cleanser

Dermalist Cleanser

Image Skincare The Max Stem Cell Facial Cleanser

The Max Cleanser

ASAP Gentle Cleansing Gel

ASAP Gentle Cleansing Gel

Clear Start Breakout Clearing Foaming Wash

Breakout Clearing Foaming Wash

Cleansers should be used morning and night. Ensure you are double cleansing at both of these times to make sure you're keeping your skin squeaky clean.

TONERS

Toner's are also a great product to implement into a skincare routine, but they aren't necessarily something that everyone needs to use! We recommend toners to acne prone and oily skin types. This is because a toner is a great tool for removing excess dirt and oils from the skin as well as clarifying.

- Remove excess oil

- Remove makeup and dirt that some cleansers may leave behind

- Purifies acne prone skin

If you don't identify with either acne prone or oily skin, a toner probably isn't necessary for you. As long as you are using a good quality cleanser that is cleaning your skin thoroughly, you are all set!

Our FAVE toner is:

Clear Start Breakout Clearing All Over Toner

Clear Start Toner

We love this toner because it provides a great dose of Salicylic Acid, a vital ingredient for healing and reducing breakouts that can sometimes be hard to incorporate into the routine of young skin.
