When the skin is hydrated, it's looking fresh, glowing, radiant, plump and luminous! If your skin is hydrated, it also means that it is strong, resilient and healthy. We all want hydrated and healthy skin, but how do we get it?
Let's take a quick dive into why hydrated skin is so important:
Hydrated skin is vital for optimum skin health and function and also needed for cell communication and cell signalling in the upper layers of the skin, known as the epidermis.
Your body and cells lose water content over the course of the day through daily physical activity, pollution and just your regular daily life. It is up to us to replenish the water loss by keeping the skin hydrated throughout the day, everyday!
How do we hydrate the skin?
Of course the first thing we think of is water. You may find yourself drinking lots of water everyday, yet your skin may feel drab, dehydrated and dull. Why?
This is because water alone isn’t going to keep the skin hydrated. Water doesn’t actually reach the cells in the epidermis. Yes, it is important and plays a role in overall hydration, but manly for out internal organs (so don't skip on the water!)
What should we focus on then?
Enhancing our skin barrier! Let's take a closer look at what ingredients we need to aid in cell hydration:
-
ESSENTIAL Fatty Acids (EFA’s)
EFA's (think your Omegas 3 and 6), are the building blocks for our cell membranes and are the main component that create a healthy skin barrier. By ensuring you get your daily dose of EFA's, you are ensuring that the water content in our cells are more balanced and maintained, which = HYDRATED SKIN!
To put it visually:
If you think about a glass of water and you place some oil in that water, you’ll notice the oil will reside to the top of the glass. If you place that glass outside in the elements that waster is less likely to evaporate. that oil is representing your skin barrier. MIND BLOWN RIGHT?
- The Bestow Beauty Plus Oil, will ensure you hit your recommended intake of Omega 3 and 6! Have this daily and you’ll be on your way to more healthier and hydrated skin.
What else do I need to be doing to keep my skin hydrated?
Here is where we go from the outside, in by using ingredients that are water loving and protecting. This will ensure your skin stays subtle and plump throughout the day.
